Reading, Listening & Watching: Items of Interest

A Podcast: Morgan Housel's, The Morgan Housel Podcast: Intelligence vs. Smarts

I previously recommended Morgan Housel's Book, The Psychology of Money. You can get a link to it below... a very good read to help with your future decision making.

I'm including a link to Morgan's Podcast, Smarts vs. Intelligence. I enjoy reading and listening to Podcasts and believe his podcast is a great one to bookmark. The episodes are short and filled with story telling that underscores the theme he discusses. Being smart and having emotional awareness will very likely lead to a better life than will having an above average level of intelligence.

Book on Behavioral Finance: Morgan Housel's, The Psychology of Money

Housel does a great job of illustrating how our brain processes risk, reward, greed and fear to help you better understand how important Behavior is to your financial well-being. Just about every chapter reinforced a personal perspective.

Podcast Episode #177 Rational Reminder: Dr. Anna Lembke: Dopamine & Decision-Making

Two Canadians, Benjamin Felix and Cameron Passmore, are the hosts of the Rational Reminder podcast. They do a great job covering sensible investing and financial decision-making. In this episode, Felix and Passmore interview Stanford Dr. Anna Lembke author of Dopamine Nation.

It's a timely conversation that covers addiction, how dopamine operates in the brain, how addictive behaviors can be observed and, importantly, modified. Addictions cover a wide range of "drugs of choice" including, legal/illegal drugs, alcohol, gaming, shopping, porn, social media, online activities. One point Lembke makes is to consider a Dopamine Fast to help recalibrate your brain if you are concerned. Everyone is susceptible. Your mental health and financial security is at risk if you are suffering from any form of addiction. Help is available.
